Delaware sports betting struggled during COVID-19 pandemic

After struggling for months amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Delaware’s sports betting industry may be ready for some good news. The state has reinstated online sports betting, but only after the 10 state casinos closed due to the coronavirus. Although Delaware sportsbooks have not been the most successful, they still rank highly among the state’s total handle. Now, lawmakers may be willing to adjust the law to allow for a thriving online sports betting industry.

Delaware sports betting has been a big advocate of the evolution of the market in the state. Prior to the SCOTUS ruling, Delaware offered a limited form of betting through a lottery. This early entry has paid off with solid tax revenue for the state coffers.

North Dakota sports betting legalized in 2019

Sports betting in North Dakota remains illegal, but there is a new push to make it legal. In January of this year, a new bill was introduced that could change this. While the bill failed to pass, there are other ways that the state can legalize the activity. The first route would be through the state’s tribal casinos. But there are also other avenues that could eventually be used to legalize sports betting in North Dakota.

While North Dakota does not have any professional or major college sports, the state’s lawmakers have been impressed by the legalization of sports betting in other states and have introduced a bill that would legalize sports betting in the state. But there are some opponents to the bill, particularly Republican Andy Margos, who doesn’t believe the issue will gain enough support to pass. Sports betting in North Dakota could help boost the morale of the state’s sports teams while generating revenue for the state. However, it would be up to the voters to make this decision.

Oregon Lottery moves slowly to avoid legislative opposition to sports betting

In the meantime, the Oregon Lottery is working to create new revenue streams. It is mulling the idea of mobile betting but hasn’t yet sorted out the logistics. It also has video lottery terminals in restaurants and bars around the state. Meanwhile, it is awaiting the outcome of a SCOTUS ruling.

Oregon is one of four states that has been grandfathered in, meaning that it can offer sports betting before the Supreme Court ruling in May. The lottery has been working on introducing sports betting in Oregon for some time, and has selected SB Tech as its technology provider. It has also started contract negotiations and regulation development with the company. In the fall, the Oregon Lottery hopes to launch limited sports betting.

The Oregon lottery has a history of sports betting, which dates back to a parlay game before the 1992 federal law. However, the Oregon lottery hasn’t offered sports betting for the past decade. Although it is technically legal in Oregon, the lottery will be slow to introduce and remove games. It will be the lottery’s decision whether to allow sports betting, unless it gets a legislative mandate from the state.
